Every bride wants flawless skin on her wedding. Choosing the right foundation makeup not only looks great on the wedding day, but in the wedding photos, as well.

Every bride wants to look and feel the best that she can on her wedding day. Countless hours have been put into creating the overall look and feel of the wedding, but after the wedding day, the whole event will only live on in pictures.

Taking the time to consider how the wedding day will look in photos will help the bride and groom be happy with their wedding photos. For the bride, choosing wedding makeup that works in photos is essential.

Many brides want to look like themselves on their wedding day, and will turn to their every day makeup to create their bridal look. While some pieces from a bride's every day makeup will be suitable for use in photography, there are several concerns that a bride should keep in mind.

Foundation Makeup and Wedding Photos

One of the most important aspects of creating a wedding makeup look that works in photographs is choosing the right foundation. While it is important to choose the right foundation makeup color, it is equally as important to make sure the texture will photograph well.

Many foundation makeup products are made with a sun protection factor (SPF). While this is great for skin, in photos, SPF creates a problem. SPF protects the skin in two ways, one of which is reflecting light away from the skin. When the flash from a camera goes off, the SPF in foundation makeup reflects the light from the flash. In wedding photos, the result is the appearance that the face of the bride is brighter than the rest of her skin, or that it appears too shiny, as if the skin is oily.

Choosing The Right Foundation Makeup For Your Wedding Day

The following tips will help a bride choose the right wedding foundation makeup:

  • Choose a foundation makeup without SPF. This rule not only applies to liquid foundation, but to powder foundations, as well. Powder foundation products have high levels of titanium dioxide, an ingredient commonly used for sun protection.
  • Look for a color that matches the skin tone of the bride perfectly. There should be no obvious change in color from the face to the neck.
  • Consider the texture of the makeup. Sheer-to-medium coverage will appear the most natural in person, but may not provide enough coverage to look flawless in photos.
  • Matte foundation makeup is suitable for most skin types on the wedding day. It controls shine, and creates a porcelain-like finish in wedding photographs.
  • Avoid mineral makeup. While mineral makeup works well for every day use, all of the prominent ingredients are highly reflective. This creates glare and a look of oiliness in wedding photos.

Practicing Wedding Makeup Before The Wedding

If the base makeup that the bride is using for the wedding day is different from the makeup she wears every day, it is important to practice with the new makeup prior to the wedding day. Different makeup provides different results, and a practice session not only ensures the bride is comfortable applying the makeup, it can help her make sure the color and formula works in a variety of lighting.

Taking before and after photos can help a bride determine how well the foundation makeup photographs, as well as confirming that the right choice was made with regard to color and texture.
