There is no need to waste time looking at a venue if it is known ahead of time that it will not fit with a particular wedding style.

Decide on Backdrop

Once a wedding style is selected the couple will need to determine the type of backdrop desired for the wedding. Outdoors? Overlooking the ocean? Overlooking a nature preserve? Overlooking the big city lights? All of these, and more, will play a factor in the final decision for the wedding location. Keep in mind, if planning to have the wedding outdoors there should be an alternate location should the weather not cooperate.

Visit Possible Sites

Go through the phone book, city hall will have some ideas or county recreation department will also have ideas for some unique wedding sites. Once the list is made, set a day aside and go from site to site taking pictures of each site. Take photos home and write pros and cons of each site on the back of each photo. This will help you select the best site for the wedding.

  • Finances - Pre-select venues that are in the budget.
