Making Photo Wedding Invitations

How to Personalize Your Greeting Cards

A photo of the two of you is a great way to personalize your wedding invitations, whether you have them professionally printed or print them yourself.

What could be more inviting than a couple of smiling faces? Especially when those faces are the two of you inviting guests to your wedding. It’s never been easier, or more stylish, to create photo wedding invitations.

Professional Printing

Many websites allow you to turn your photos into greeting cards and invitations. If you shop around, you can find both traditional and contemporary styles. Some photo cards are simply the photo with a few words printed on a border you choose (much like the family cards you may see at Christmas), which can work well for casual invitations. Others are complete folding greeting cards with ample space for printing details about the time and date. You can even find accordion-style booklets that allow you to print a whole series of photos on your invitation. The type of photo invitation you choose depends on the style of the wedding, and of course, on your budget.

Make sure to find out if matching envelopes are included in the price or if you’ll need to buy them separately. Be sure to consider the cost of shipping (and for mailing each invitation) in your budget as well. Find out how far in advance you’ll need to order to get your custom printed photo invitations ready in time. Since wedding invitations often go out six weeks before the big day, you’ll need to order custom printed photo invitations early.

Printing at Home

With all the technology available at home, you may be able to save money by printing your wedding invitations yourself. However, be sure to take into account the price of ink, paper, and your time. In some cases it may actually be less expensive to have the photos printed for you.

If you decide to print your wedding invitations yourself, you’ll need to buy a wedding invitation kit, blank greeting cards, or cardstock to print the photo invitations on. The photo can go on the front or inside of a folded card, or at the top of a flat invitation.

An alternative to custom printed photo cards are greeting cards that allow you to insert a professionally printed photo, much like a paper picture frame. You can find these at many craft and paper supply stores, as well as online. Simply print the time, date, and information on the inside of the card, and insert pre-printed photos into the frames.

More Uses for Photo Cards

Photo cards also work great for save the date cards, or for thank you cards, giving your guests another chance to see the smiles of the happy couple. (A picture from the honeymoon could be perfect.)
